The Kelstone has a range of 5 octaves and three whole notes.
One hand can overlap 4 octaves, depending on the size of the hand.
Position of the notes on the Kelstone
Let’s start with the positions of the notes, once you have grasped this the rest becomes amazingly easy.
Note that the open strings are never played, they are muted by a muting strip.
Otherwise they would ring all the time after the hammering.
You could see the layout of the notes on the Kelstone as those on a 5-string bass (an extra low B string) and 4 strings extra that go up in fourths:
